From Corpses to Closets. A journey.

Welcome to my blog! My name is Emily Speed and I am a former death investigator that decided to quit my career in forensics to live a more peaceful and present life with my family {I’m married and have two boys}. There’s nothing quite like seeing death and dying everyday for 14 years to make you realize how you want to live your own life. What’s important. And how to eliminate unnecessary stress and distractions that take away from the joyful parts of life.

I left my career over 2 years ago and created The Organized Home Mindset, LLC. Otherwise known as “The Ohm”. A professional organizing company that focuses on decluttering your home so that you can ultimately clear your mind.

Environment is everything. What you surround yourself with, you ultimately become. If you are surrounded by toxic people, you eventually become toxic. If you are surrounded by chaos and clutter, it will eventually be a reflection in your mind. As cliche as it is, life is short. Fleeting. Death does not discriminate and can happen at any time. All of the mess, the clutter, the STUFF isn’t it sis. It’s not what life is all about. It’s actually taking away from the life you’re meant to have.

I am a yogi and love how yoga clears the energy channels in your body with movement. The movement can alleviate inflammation and stress with simple poses and the breath. I started thinking of the clutter in your home or environment as simple as the inflammation in your body. It causes the energy to become stagnant. When you begin to declutter, move, and breath life back into your spaces again is allows the energy to flow freely. What yoga does for the body is what organization does for the home. And THIS is where “The Ohm” was born.

I have been into SO many homes over the span of my career investigating death. It ranged from drug houses to millionaires and everywhere in between. I was in the intimate spaces that can say so much about how the person lived. And the clutter was everywhere. The attachment to “stuff”. The postponed decisions. The overstimulation. The overwhelm. I was walking through it trying to find even the most basic piece of paper or literally a dead body. Over the years it was beginning to engrain in me the importance of simple. Decluttered. And wanting to help others to find their peace by letting go of what is no longer serving them.

I have so many stories, tips, before & afters, and ultimate life changing outcomes to share. I also have a podcast, Death Calls, that touches more on the forensic side of things. Thank you for reading and joining me on the journey; it’s where the joy really lives.

Emily
